What to Expect at Your First Boxing Class

The short answerBook any group class (your first one is free), arrive 15 minutes early, and bring water and indoor runners. We'll fit your gloves, help wrap your hands and coach you through 50 minutes at your own pace.

Before you book

Most of our members had never boxed before their first class. You don't need experience, a partner or your own gear.

Pick any group class on the schedule. Your first group class at West 85th is free. Rumble Boxing, our signature class, is a great place to start because coaches give options for every level.

What to bring

  • A water bottle
  • Indoor runners
  • Comfortable workout clothes

Gloves and wraps are available at the studio, so leave the shopping for later. Showers and lockers are on site if you're heading to work after.

Arrive 15 minutes early

Give yourself a little extra time on day one. We'll show you around, fit your gloves and help wrap your hands. If you want to learn to wrap them yourself, read our guide on how to wrap your hands for boxing.

During class

A Rumble Boxing class runs 50 minutes and mixes heavy bag boxing, strength and HIIT, all set to the music. Your coach calls the combinations and the pace, and shows simpler options whenever you need them.

Go at your own speed. Nobody's watching you, they're too busy punching.

After your first class

Grab some water, stretch, and ask your coach anything. If you loved it, take a look at our intro offers and memberships, or try one of the formats you'll only find at West 85th: Circuits, RMBL Box + Lift and Rumble Labs.
